In midday trading Friday, the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) up about 8.3% on the day. Also ETFs showing reasonable gains are the SPDR KBW Mortgage Finance ETF (KME) up .7%, and the Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (GDX) up 1.2% on the day. And underperforming other ETFs today is the SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (AMEX: XSD), down about 3.9% and the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) down 1.9% in Friday afternoon trading.
