Friday, May 14th ETF Movers: VXX, TLT, EWP, TUR, SLX, PSI, VGK
In trading on Friday, the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX) is outperforming other ETFs, trading up 8.6% on the day. Also up on the day is the iShares Barclays 20+ Year Treasury Bond Fund (TLT) up 1.7%. And underperforming other ETFs today is the iShares MSCI Spain Index Fund (EWP), off about -5.8% in Friday afternoon trading. Also down on the day are the, iShares MSCI Turkey Investable Market Index Fund (TUR) down 4.7%, Market Vectors Steel ETF (SLX) down -4.2%, the PowerShares Dynamic Semiconductors ETF (PSI) down 3.5%, and the Vanguard European ETF (VGK), which sank by 3.3%.
About the iPath S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures ETN (VXX)
The investment seeks to replicate, net of expenses, the S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Total Return Index. The index offers exposure to a daily rolling long position in the first and second month VIX futures contracts and reflects the implied volatility of the S&P 500 index at various points along the volatility forward curve. The index futures roll continuously throughout each month from the first month VIX futures contract into the second month VIX futures contract.
