I think I prefer a more direct investment in alternative energy – build or buy a solar or wind or other generation system for your home and make a real difference in an ongoing fashion. This fosters development by putting some money into the industry, and reduces reliance on traditional power generation methods. By the way I think “alternative” is a bad misnomer – it is all energy, no matter how you get it!
