Comparing The SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) With The iShares COMEX Gold Trust (IAU)
August 6th, 2010
Paul Justice, Morningstar Analyst, produced a segment comparing the two popular gold funds SPDR Gold Trust (NYSE:GLD), and the iShares COMEX Gold Trust (NYSE:IAU). GLD came out about two months before the iShares product, but has a substantial lead in assets under management which is often called the first-mover advantage. In an effort to overcome the second mover disadvantage, iShares announced a price cut on its fund, dropping it to 25 basis points per year compaired to 40 basis points charged by the SPDR Gold Trust.
