Thank you so much for explaining these new words and terminology, to wit:
"Steep backwardation could mean there’s a current shortage in the underlying commodity, while a steep contango could suggest a current surplus."

Now, can we please move on and receive your explanations for "steep forwardupping" and "steep conrhumba"?

With the very large number of ETFs available, it is good to see this conference to help make sense of the ETF landscape. Recent commission free ETF's from Vanguard have recently become an interesting choice for investors especially for sector rotation strategies as tracked at mybestfunds.

...I ask myself how bad is it in the states at this present time when the financial community should be away for the summer break and letting the market float up only to re audit on return in the autumn and thereby create the correction that we all expect.
This year seems different, can it really be an entire portion of the working populace are focused on the mid terms, or is what we are seeing in the markets a true reflection of things to come?
If either scenario has any weight to it then as a whole it is far worse than any of us have so far imagined, whatever the outcome, whether its finance or democracy or both! this should not be happening if it really is!
The only thing worth any value is our fragile peace and maybe we should start to talk up in its defence before it is too late to be heard.
Just a thought!

Rubicon Minerals with a market cap approaching C$1B and less than 70K ounces of Inferred gold is a very interesting company. Is Rubicon priced correctly in the current market? I've put together a report on this question. For more information please see http://www.goldminerpulse.com/4Sale/rubiconMinerals.php

I think that any of the majors on your list will be shopping for several of the juniors you have listed. The next round of financial reports from the producers should push-up their stock prices and set the stage for several rounds of all stock take over deals of juniors. Agnico-Eagle has just completed an all stock Meliadine take-over and Goldcorp has been selling off projects, perhaps to build a take-over war chest. It should be an interesting 2nd half to 2010 and 2011.

Your list of producers and juniors are both excellent lists for anyone wanting to hold gold in the face of uncertain financial times.

Interesting article we think all commodity investors should read. We've shared this on for you.

'Contango' is one of the reasons we prefer holding the physical commodity, rather than an ETF. For example - the world's largest gold ETF is is referred to having approx 20% of its value in futures. This is why we only sell physical gold, silver, platinum, and palladium in our live exchange markets.

Good investing!

You said "But regardless, I have to conclude that the next two weeks must contain the epicenter of the decline, otherwise I will have to conclude that the pattern similarity is a total failure. "

SPY is UP 7.3% in the last two weeks. No crash, ergo you are an idiot, Get out of the market and don't give market advice.

I wish the publishers of prediction articles would automatically republish them again at the appropriate later time so we can all see how reliable the prediction was. I have a feeling that any fool can get on air or get published simply by making an extreme prediction and nobody remembers later how often they were wrong. Yet the orginator of the predicion will crow for years if one of his silly predictions happens to turn out right (and that is bound to happen sooner or later).

This prediction would be OK if you gave just_one_shred_of_supporting_evidence.

It's too bad you didn't, because there are some big issues overhanging the market to be considered. But, without evidence, your prediction is just wasteful fortune-telling. Give people something worth reading.
