Van Eck Files For Junior Miners ETF

coming-soonVan Eck Global has filed papers with the Securities & Exchange Commission for a new exchange-traded fund that will target small- and mid-cap gold and silver mining companies. The filing contains few details, but the new Market Vector Metals ETF will follow a passive indexing strategy to capture a float-adjusted, market-cap-weighted index of smaller mining outfits.

BlackRock Said to Offer Cash, Stock for Barclays Unit

blackrockBlackRock Inc. may buy Barclays Plc’s fund division for $12 billion to $13 billion in cash and stock in what would be the largest acquisition in the asset-management industry, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. BlackRock would pay half the purchase price in cash and the rest in stock, leaving London-based Barclays with a 20 percent stake in the combined company, said the person, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. New York-based BlackRock, which may announce the deal as soon as tomorrow, is seeking to raise as much as $3 billion from sovereign wealth funds in Kuwait and Qatar, the person said.

Grail Advisors Plans To Launch 4 Active, Single-Manager ETFs

grailadvisorsGrail Advisors LLC plans to launch four exchange-traded funds, which it says will be the first traditional actively managed ETFs to use a single-manager approach. The San Francisco-based asset manager filed Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission to launch RP Growth, RP Focused Large Cap Growth, RP Technology and RP Financials ETFs. RiverPark Advisors LLC will serve as the primary sub-adviser for each of the funds, and St. Louis-based Wedgewood Partners Inc. will also sub-advise the RP Focused Large Cap Growth ETF.
